In our last blog we shared a list of some of our favourite Esker Spirits summer serves (take notes here) and whilst we are partial to a summer cocktail, we are also embracing a new serve on the scene - the hard seltzer.

Hard seltzers have been super popular across the pond for a few years now (it has been reported that a whopping 52% of Americans are now swapping beer for ready-to-drink versions of this drink) and despite only more recently migrating to UK, this fun, fresh tipple is fast becoming the drink of the moment with sales soaring throughout the country in the last 12 months.

So what is a ‘hard seltzer’ anyway?

Some of the most lasting drinks trends have come our way from the US – Coca Cola (or Pepsi of course), Bourbon, fabulous cocktails (including the Cosmopolitan, the Clover Club, the Manhattan) and now, the hard seltzer.

Hard seltzers are big news on liquor store shelves – they are usually a pre-canned mix of sparkling water combined with alcohol and fruit flavouring. Depending on the hard seltzer brand, these fruit flavours can come from real fruit juice or artificial flavouring. These are hugely popular as they have a reputation for being lower in sugar than other ready to drink options – but please don’t take that as “healthy”, they still contain alcohol after all.

While those little cans are delicious, why not consider making your own? We can offer you the spirit via our shop – any one of the three Esker vodkas make an excellent base - flavoured with real fruit and a touch of sugar to make the fruit more… fruity. You just need to bring the sparkling water (why not try Deeside Water?), some ice – and maybe a little garnish. There you have it, hard seltzers “on tap” - something light, chilled and fruity to see you through the summer!

Fruity raspberry vodka lengthened with sparkling water, served with fresh raspberries and balanced with zested lemon peel.

Esker Orange & Pomegranate Hard Seltzer

Citrussy orange and pomegranate vodka awakened with a splash of soda. Serve with orange peel and fresh rosemary for a zingy seltzer serve, with a subtle hint of fresh herbs.
